About Oda

Oda Sakunosuke (nicknamed Odasaku by his friends) appears in episode 13 of the anime, the first episode of the second season. He is the main character in the four-episode flashback story arc which was adapted from the light novel, "Dazai Osamu and the Dark Era". He will also appear in the Bungou Stray Dogs movie, "Dead Apple", released in 2018. Oda is voiced by Suwabe Junichi.

Oda is named after a real-life author who lived in the early twentieth century. His special ability, Flawless, allows him to see a few seconds into the future when he is in danger, usually letting him avoid or combat the danger. Oda originally worked as an assassin. He dreamed of becoming a novelist some day, but he believed that a murderer was not worthy to write about people's lives. He gave up killing, trying to atone for his past misdeeds.

Despite working for the Port Mafia, because of his refusal to kill he was relegated to the lowest rank, doing random odd jobs. He was a kind-hearted and generous man, taking in five children who were orphaned during a conflict between underworld organizations, and paying for their day-to-day care by a local ramen shop owner.

Oda was close friends with fellow Mafia members Dazai Osamu and Sakaguchi Ango, and the three of them frequently drank together at their favorite bar. Oda was a huge influence on Dazai's life, being one of the only people that Dazai genuinely considered a friend during his time with the Port Mafia.
