Swordspoint is a wonderful story of love and intrigue in an almost Victorian fantasy setting, where duels are fought by hired swordsmen, at the request of their noble patrons. Any summary of the story would be vastly over-simplifying the amount of depth and the plot twists and turns that this story takes. The main character, Richard St. Vier, is the most sought-after swordsman in the city. Richard's lover, Alec, is a bitter, drunken, self-destructive man, a former noble turned university student with a cynical, biting wit. Richard and Alec get caught up in intrigue and political plots when Richard is hired to kill Basil Halliday, a much-loved official in the city. Riverside is the name of the district of the city where Richard and Alec live. It has a bad reputation, and officers of the law almost never venture into its depths.
